AWR1642: PCB design reduces dissipation and interference

Part Number: AWR1642

Hi,

I want to design new PCB board to reduces dissipation and interference, and wish to answer some questions for me.Thank you.

  • If I put the RF system on a board alone and other components on another board, will it reduce the interference of the circuit to the RF signal?
  • If the PCB board add two layers(Ground and signal layers), will it help?
  • If I want to test the performance of PCB antenna, is there any recommended instrument or software?

Best Regards,
-Charles

  • Hello Charles,

    Please find my reply below:

    • If I put the RF system on a board alone and other components on another board, will it reduce the interference of the circuit to the RF signal?<VD> Having  other components on a separate board would provide some level of isolation for noise coupling. But power supply routing from the other board could lead to larger resistance and inductance on the supply path , which is not good. So the power supply needs to taken care of properly.
    • If the PCB board add two layers(Ground and signal layers), will it help?<VD> Additional PCB layers do help in providing better isolation , especially GND layers, if used properly.
    • If I want to test the performance of PCB antenna, is there any recommended instrument or software?<VD> we have limited experience in antenna design and testing, since we focus on the MMIC part. But typically you would need an anechoic chamber with calibrated antennas and spectrum analyzer to test the antenna. These should be able to operate at 80Ghz.
