Hello Experts,

My customer is building their own cascade board and has a question about 40MHz clock.

On MMWCAS-RF-EVM, the signal is
40MHz_XTAL -> MasterMMIC -> Distribution -> SlaveMMIC

They want to use followings on their board:
40MHz_TCXO -> Distribution -> each MMIC

(1) Is there any concern?

(2) Is it okay to input 40MHz clock to Slave MMIC before its RF Power Up (i.e. before ar1.RfEnable_mult)?

    Hello Ken,

    They can use external 40Mhz clock and feed it to master and slave devices. There is no issue if the clock is available before the RF power up.

    They need to ensure the external clock source meets the phase noise requirements as mentioned in the datasheet. the phase noise of the external TCXO  will directly impact the phase noise of the synth LO.
