Hi Team,

May I ask for your help? My customer concern is below:

"Need info on what components to buy for mm wave based system to monitor a room to detect change and human presence. Also would like technical info on programming a system.

I need a solution that can tell me if walls, ceiling, and floors in a room are still intact. When and where have people been in the room and verifies the number of objects are still present. Think of monitoring a bank vault and verifying the contents of the room are still present even when people routinely access the area. What so i need to procure to build this system?"

I initially think of IWR6843 but this concern may require your expertise.

Can you be more specific on which items in the toolbox you are referring too? Also I need something that can verify movement of objects. What do you have that can tell me the contents in the room have not changed? I also would like to know what I need to procure for a building a system to test.

Hello Chris,

For your application, it seems the Area Scanner Demo may be most applicable. This will include both motion tracking of people and detection of static objects. The static object detection should work whether a static object is added to the scene or if it is subtracted.

Hello Gerald,

There are 3 pieces of HW I would recommend, 2 evaluation modules and 1 debug board.

IWR6843ISKEVM
IWR6843AOPEVM
MMWAVEICBOOST

The 2 eval boards have different antenna patterns that perform better/worse depending on the scene. The ISK antenna will have longer range and higher resolution, but lower field of view. The AOP antenna will have shorter range but wider field of view. The MMWAVEICBOOST will allow you to debug the code you are modifying. Please see the EVM guide from the links above for more info on the differences.
