IWR1843BOOST: Range elevation heatmap processing

Part Number: IWR1843BOOST

Hi, team

I want to generate range-elevation heatmap by using beamforming. So far, the device is working as TDM mode and all 3 tx antennas are enabled. The range-azimuth heatmap is generated from the data recevied in virtual antennas of the first figure but I do not know which antennas is used for range-elevation heatmap. I found an example in obstacle detection program for xWR1642 EVM, which generates both range-azimuth and range-elevation heatmap. However, the virtual antenna array in the obstacle detection reference design is like in the second figure and I think that this antenna array is not correct for xWR1642.  I want to make sure which antennas are used for range-elevation heatmap generation in xWR1843 device.

Best wishes,

Xi

  • Hi, Xi:

For range-elevation heatmap generation, you can use antenna pair (3, 5) or (4, 6) or (9, 7) or (10, 8).   In general, you have to use the antennas which share the same azimuth location.   Or you can compute the 4 set of range-elevation heatmap using the 4 above pairs and then add them together noncoherently.

    Best,
