MMWCAS-RF-EVM: Dual mmWave Studio install for Cascade and regular boards

Part Number: MMWCAS-RF-EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR2243, IWR6843ISK

Hi all,

Can the mmWave Studio 2G (version 3.0.0.14) for cascade boards be installed and operated on a PC which already has the regular mmWave Studio (ver 2.1.1.0) installed?

Or can one of these be used for both cascade and regular one sensor setups?

Or is the advice to use a separate PC when working with a Cascade setup?

Many thanks,

Neil

  • Hello Neil,

Yes, you can install multiple instances of mmWave Studio, but you can only run one of them at a time on your PC.

For Gen2, you would need mmWave Studio 3x, whereas for Gen1 devices, you would need studio 2x. Its not really dependent on single chip or cascade.

Cascade EVM has AWR2243 mmWave sensor which is Gen2 and hence mmWave Studio 3x is required.

  • Thank you Ishita - so just to confirm mmWave Studio 2G (version 3.0.0.14) is not compatible with IWR6843ISK.

So I need to install both versions.

When working with the cascade board I need to use version 3.x.x.x.

When working with the IWR6843ISK board I need to use version 2.x.x.x.

Is there a plan to have a future version of mmWave studio that supports both Gen1 and Gen2 devices?

    Many thanks,

    Neil

  • Hello Neil,

When working with the cascade board I need to use version 3.x.x.x.

When working with the IWR6843ISK board I need to use version 2.x.x.x.

Yes, the above statements mentioned by you are correct. You can find this information in the mmWave Studio release notes and "Supported products and hardware section" as well.

Currently, there is no plan to have a common mmWave Studio release for both Gen1x and Gen2x parts.

    Regards,

    Ishita
