IWR6843AOP: Design query

Part Number: IWR6843AOP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR6843, AM3358

IWR6843AOP

Hi,

Please find attached design query list.

  • Hi Yash

I cannot access the above link. Please post the entire contents into the thread.

  • Hi Akash,

    Design query for IWR6843AOP,

    Sr no Section Interface Query
1 IWR6843AOP PMIC Ferrite bead used in EVM for PMIC section are not as suggested by Datasheet, which one to use?
2 IWR6843AOP PMIC Datasheet suggested 100nF for VANA de-cap, but in EVM design 220nF is used. Which one to follow, EVM schematic or datasheet ?
3 IWR6843AOP PMIC PMIC_CLKOUT from IWR6843 is not used for PMIC IC, as per datasheet it can help in decrease voltage noise. Do we need to use it?
4 IWR6843AOP PMIC Any advantage of using PMIC over regular DCDC? PMIC looks more expensive than DCDC.
5 IWR6843AOP nReset How much delay should be provided between SOP and RESET enable?
6 IWR6843AOP Clock Do we need SYNC IN and SYNC OUT signal when using stand alone, without booster board ?
7 IWR6843AOP OSC_CLKOUT Do we need to have OSC_CLKOUT test point or SMA connector? What parameter we can measure on OSC_CLKOUT?

    Thanks,

    Yash

  • Hi Yash

For the first one the first question the PMIC LP87524 is specified in the datasheet for the J and P variants. It can be found in the datasheet here.

For the other questions I will need more time and will need to loop in a hardware expert. Please allow several days for a response.

    AG

  • Hello Yash,

    1. For the secondary LC filter (after the PMIC LC filter), you should use the blm18kg121th1d ferrite. Which part number are you referring to specifically?

    2. Use the same decaps as in the EVM

    3. PMIC_CLKOUT is not required. By default this pin will not be configured as a clock unless you enable it in the pinmux.

    4. The radar is very sensitive to supply noise. We recommend to only use designs that have been validated and tested on our EVM. Using other supplies could result in poor RF performance depending on the noise specifications of the supply.

    5. There is no fixed delay. As long as all supplies are stable and the SOP pins are stable, NRST can be released. The timing of this will depend on how you are driving the SOP pins and how you are driving the supplies.

    6. No, SYNC_IN and SYNC_OUT are not required. These are only needed if you want to trigger the frame from an external source.

    7. For your first board design, we recommend to bring out OSC_CLK. This can be used to help tune the XTAL frequency in case you need to adjust the load caps on the XTAL.

  • Hi,

Please find attached Schematic for review.  We are using mmWave IC IWR6843 with AM3358 SoC.
