Hi, I am new with Radar Sensors and I am currently exploring the functions and fundamentals by using the AWR6843ISK and MMWAVEICBOOST. I have read some threads relating to the topic and have some understanding by running the demos and I would like to ask where would be a good starting point for me to explore in reprogramming or modifying the demo code or from other resources. If there are any threads or link relating to the following topic be very helpful for me.

Hello,

To start out I would suggest doing the following:

1. Watch the following 5 part video series:

https://training.ti.com/mmwave-training-series

This will give you a a good theoretical understanding of how FMCW radar works and ties directly into how our devices work.

2. I would make sure that you are able to run the OOB via prebuilt binary, build the prebuilt binary yourself in CCS, and by running the demo in debug also through CCS. All of these "ways" are described in the OOB user guide.

3. Take the OOB and create a scene of a couple of objects and see what you can see. Mess around with GUI visualizer and see what effects different knobs have on the visualizations in the scene.

This would be the first things to do.

Hi,

Thank you for your prompt response and suggestion, I will do that to understand further.

With regards to the OOB demo, I notice there's the "68xx ISK – Hard-Coded Config for mmWave SDK Demo". I would like to ask if this demo code or any other configurations can be modified?

Hello,

That lab demonstrates how CLI configurations that are normally done over UART can be "hard coded" in the software. With this implementation any change to the configuration would require a new meta-image to built/flashed every time the "hard coded" configuration needs to be changed. This may be something that is okay if you don't ever want to change the configuration, but for development I would suggest the default OOB demo.

Hi,

1. Thank you for the explanation. I have tried out the default OOB demo as suggested as well as the hard-coded OOB demo and got both of them to work. I am currently still exploring on different configurations to observe the different output data I will be getting.

2. In the Setup Guide for the "68xx ISK – Hard-Coded Config for mmWave SDK Demo", I don't understand on how to implement CLI Bypass in Other Labs section. I refered to the "mmw_cli.c" file as mentioned. The steps are vague and I am unsure how should I go about or what changes in the "mmw_cli.c" file should I make in order to bypass the CLI. I have read similar threads with regards to this and I have a hard time understanding it.

I also read through the doxygen file in the following directory: C:\ti\mmwave_sdk_03_05_00_04\packages\ti\demo\xwr68xx\mmw\docs\doxygen\html

Is it possible if you can provide a detail explanation in bypassing the CLI and/or have an example I could follow or read through to understand better?

Hello,

Most if not all of our other labs are based off OOB, so those instructions to implement "CLI Bypass" were done in the Hard Coded Config OOB. I would look at the original OOB and compare mmw_cli.c to what is done in the Hard Coded Config OOB. Use the "How to bypass CLI" steps show above to make sense of the delta between the two files. We do not have any other resources beyond what you have already looked at that go more in depth.
