AWR1843BOOST: Continuous Mode: DC Power Consumption

Part Number: AWR1843BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1843,

Hi,

we would like to set up a AWR1843 to transmit a CW tone. According to the SDK docs, rlSetContModeConfig() and associated APIs allow us to do that.

What is the expected DC power consumption of the AWR1843 in continuous mode? Alternatively, what is the power consumption of the entire AWR1843BOOST module in this mode?

Best regards

Sebastian

  • Hello Sebastian,

Power consumption depends on a lot of factors like the number of transmitters/receivers enabled, analog RF supply used, TX power, DSP/ HWA activity, frame/chirping activity.

The numbers quoted in the AWR1843 datasheet correspond to typical average numbers (at 25C) with 50% duty cycle, which means the device is transmitting chirps for only 50% of the total time. In continuous streaming mode, the device transmits at all times (kind of 100% duty cycle), so it basically corresponds to the power consumed by the chip in active chirping mode.

For a 2TX, 4RX usecase at 25C with max TX o/p Power, the number should be around 3W. Again, this is very rough estimate since the exact power will depend on the actual usecase and the relevant configuration.

    Hope this makes sense.
