IWR6843AOPEVM: high-accuracy visualizer

Part Number: IWR6843AOPEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR6843AOP

Hello,

I have been trying to set up and use different labs for the IWR6843AOPEVM to get to know it better. However it seems that i cannot get the level-sensing/high-accuracy lab to work. I have flashed the binary and  connected the EVm to my Computer via USB-Cable. First i tryed to use the online-visualizer and thus installed the ti cloud agent and the chrome-extention. I can select the right serial ports, however it doesn't seems to connect. After that I have downloaded the Visualizer from the TI-Gallery (Version 2.0.0) and installed it. For some reason it is caled GUI Composer and I am not able to find the launch button/exe for the application.

I would really appreciate if you could help me Slight smile

with best regards

  • Hello Nikita,

Please refer to our relevant FAQ page linked below for some debug methods to connect to the visualizer :

    https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensors-group/sensors/f/sensors-forum/856038/faq-queries-related-to-mmwave-demo-visualizer

You could also take a look at the mmWave Visualizer user guide

Let us know if the above linked page helped resolve your issue. If not, please feel free to highlight the shortcomings.

  • Hi,

I have read the article, but unfortunatly it was not very helpful. The Problem is that I can connect to the Demo-Visualizer (with the demo bin flashed) but not to the high accuracy visualizer (with the high accuracy bin flashed). In the bottom tastbar it says "Connecting 1 of 2 targets". I figured out that if i press the NRST button while it is trying to connect it goes to "Connecting 2 of 2 targets". I have followed the user manual step by step nevertheless this happens. I would really appreciate it, if you could help me get the visualizer / lab running since it is the one I am intresseted in.

  • Hi Nikita

Can you confirm you have taken the board out of flashing mode?

Also can you run the SDK Out-of-Box Demo on your board?

    Regards,

    AG

  • Hi,

No the board is not in flashing mode and yes, the Out-of-Box Demo is running seemlesly with the demo visualizer. I managed to install the offline version of the GUI Composer and the same error occured. It seems like there is rather a problem with the .bin that I am flashing than with the visualizer. What is still worrying me is that there was one page in the user manual that said only the 2.0 version of the chip works and when I tryed to compare the chip that I have with the pictures in the guide neither version matched my Chip. (is the guilde just out dated?)

    reagrds,

    Nikita

  • Hi Nikita

This is true, the lab is only compatible with ES2.0 silicon of the IWR6843AOP. Can you post a picture of your powered board when this error occurs?

    Regards,

    AG

  • Hi Akash,

Picture 1 is the chip, 2.1 and 2.2 is when I try to connect to the Visualizer and 3.1 and 3.2 is when I press the NRST button after connecting. I hope the resolution is sufficient.

  • Hi Nikita

Can you confirm you've selected the correct COM ports? Please note the order of DATA_port and CFG_port are reversed between the mmWave Demo Visualizer and High Accuracy Visualizer.

  • I have got the same issue with this board, the OOB works but I cannot get any figure out of the level sensing lab. I use the mmWave visualizer for the visualization and one of the COMs doesn't connect

  • Hi Akash,

yes, I am confident that the selected ports are correct. To be sure I tried both options. If I put them in wrong order the same Message appears. To verfy I have attached two pictures of the COM Ports where I think that the correct COM ports are selected:

However I found something interesting (I don't know if it is of interest to you): If I press the NRST button after I selected the COM Ports in the Visualizer and it is trying to connect regardless of which COM Ports I selected only the CFG Port connects (in both cases COM 5 or 4 selected as CFG).

  • Hi Nikita

I am sorry but I am not able to reproduce this error. It seems you are doing the proper steps so I cannot easily explain your error.

These are the steps I have taken:

    • I have flashed my IWR6843AOPEVM with high_accuracy_68xx_demo.bin in the prebuilt_binaries folder from mmwave_industrial_toolbox_4_8_0
    • I am using the High Accuracy Visualizer 2.0.0 and connect by clicking the Options button and selecting the Serial Port ... button.
    • After clicking the LOAD CONFIG FROM PC AND SEND button in the visualizer I select the high_accuracy_demo_68xx.cfg file in the chirp_configs folder. I have attached it here as well.

My visualizer is running as intended.

  • Hi Akash,

it seems like there is a little inconsistency in the Visualizers: When I use the Demo Visualizer and select the Serial Ports and everything is allright it immediately says "Hardware Connected", after which I usualy load the config. However this doesn't seem to be the case with the high accuracy Visualizer. After I select the Serial Ports it says "Connecting 1 of 2" so I accutally never tried to load a config file, since I thought it already wasn't working. But if I load the Config File anyway it somehow connects and works. After that it also says " Hardware Connected". But like i said this wasn't clear to me. Thank you for your help and I would really appreciate if you could look into this so other people don't get confused like me :)

    with best regards,

    Nikita
