IWR6843ISK: Saving data directly to storage device

Hi all,

What are the possible methods to saving output data to a storage device without sending it through to the PC? My team is trying to save data from the board on a separate storage device (such as an SD card) as an alternative to receiving the data on a PC. Is this possible and if so how can it be done?

In terms of "output data," are you referring to ADC or point-cloud data?

Hi Brennan,

My original intent was the point-cloud data, but storing the ADC data might be something that we're interested in later so if both are possible then a solution for both would be appreciated. We do have the DCA1000 and MMWAVEICBOOST available to use.

just FYI, I have had luck using UART to SD card module like this one for datalogging UART output (in my case sensor data) as you describe: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/13712

As Josh stated, using a UART to SD card module would be the best way to send point-cloud data to a storage device without sending it through a PC.

In regards to ADC data, this data can be sent to an SD card with the use of the DCA1000EVM Data Capture card https://www.ti.com/tool/DCA1000EVM . Brennan,

I was under the impression that the DCA1000 does not currently support saving to the SD card (see pages 3 and 26 in the user guide). Is that now a supported feature and the documentation is inaccurate?

Thank you for the suggestion, that seems like a viable option. If the board is connected to the UART to SD device through the USB port, how is the board powered?

Mitch,

I see you mentioned that you have a MMWAVEICBOOST available to use. You could power the EVM by mounting it to the MMWAVEICBOOST powered from a wall plug, and connecting a UART to SD module to the MMWAVEICBOOST. This will allow you to power the EVM and collect point cloud data on an SD card.

Mitch,

After consulting a DCA1000 expert, it seems that the current firmware does not support routing the data to the SD card (and there are no future plans to include this functionality). You will have to use a PC to store the initial data collection, but you could then transfer the data to an external storage device.
