AWR1843: Question regarding Watchdog NMI

Dear TI Team,

i have one question regarding the Watchdog and the NMI-Mode on AWR1843.

Is my understanding correct, that on MSS side, if the Watchdog times out, an ESM Interrupt group 2 will occur.

If global interrupts are disabled, so a watchdog timeout remains undetected?

-> So the Watchdog interrupt is not really a non maskeable interrupt, because if interrupts are disabled, no ESM group 2 interrupt will occur.

Please confirm.

I have already seen the Watchdog example in mmwave SDK. There is also the ESM module used and a callback is registered if NMI is configured as reaction.

Hi Sergej,

Watchdog on MSS side is not by default enabled. The user can configure the preload register value(DWD counter) and then enable the Watchdog. Once The user enables the watchdog, the preload value or DWD counter value cannot be changed. The user will have to first disable the Watchdog and then only will be able to update the value.

On the NMI query, once the watchdog is enabled it is NMI and executes action based on the configured mode, NMI to CPU or RESET.

Regarding the NMI query: How can i register the ISR for the watchdog NMI?

Is WDT_NMI_REQ_ESM the correct one? I don't think so, because if interrupts are disabled globaly, the WDG Interrupt does not fire.

Hi Jitendra,

Thanks, i have already seen the example.

To clarify:

In the referenced example a ESM callback for SOC_XWR18XX_MSS_DSS_GP2_ERR_ESM in Group 1 is used.

Also in group 2 SOC_XWR18XX_MSS_WDT_NMI_REQ_ESM exists. I want a NMI if watchdog times out on MSS side. Which one is the better option and where is the difference between both.
