AWR1443BOOST: USB device not recognized

Part Number: AWR1443BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR1843BOOST, , DCA1000EVM

Hi,

I'm currently using the AWR1443BOOST Rev A with the DCA1000EVM board. I'm trying to use the mmWave studio to run commands, but whenever i plug in the device a message pops up that USB device is not recognized. Under the device manager it says "Unknown USB Device (Device Description Request Failed)". I've connected jumpers to SOP0 and SOP1 and the NERR_OUT led is red. I've also double checked that the power supplies and cables all work (also tested it against the IWR1843BOOST boards with their respective DCA1000EVM boards). I've tried restarting the computer, updating the drivers, trying another computer and trying other cables. Nothing seems to work. I'm hoping there is no damage to the board but I am unsure. I was using it just 1 hour ago, and then when I tried to plug it in again and restart my setup it started throwing this issue.

Thanks

  • Hi Hailan,

This looks like a PC issue but since you've already mentioned about trials on a different machine as well, I'm not sure.

Is the 5V LED on the board glowing? What is the rating of the power supply you're using here? Can you also send a screenshot of your device manger window when you plug in the devices.

Please make sure the USB ports are not engaged somewhere else.

    Regards,

    Ishita

  • I am using 5V power supplies for both the DCA1000EVM and the AWR1443BOOST. The 5V LED is glowing, as is NRST and NERR_OUT on the AWR1443BOOST.

Here is picture of my device manager. I also noticed in the COM ports only 3 of the EVM ports are recognized, however this was present before and we could run the board without any issues.

I don't think the USB ports are engaged somewhere else, but I am not sure how to check that.

    Thanks,

  • Also in the picture above I have the device disabled but when it is enabled the device manager looks like this:

  • Hello Hailan,

Thankyou for sending the pictures of your device manager window.

As you mentioned, I cannot see all the required COM ports. Do you have the required XDS110 drivers installed? As soon as you connect the AWR device to your PC, two XDS100 COM ports should show up.

Please update your FTDI drivers as well.

Refer to mmwave_studio_user_guide.pdf (Section 2.3) for detailed instructions.

    Regards,

    Ishita

  • I've updated all of these again and I'm still running into the same issue. To clarify, to update the FTDI drivers I right clicked on the USB ports, selected update driver and then linked the ftdi folder in mmWave studio.

For the XDS110 COM ports I do have the drivers installed which I believe is just from installing the XDS Emulation Software. I've done this multiple times to make sure that wasn't the issue. Is there more I need to do to install the XDS110 Drivers?

  • Hello Hailan,

Yes, your procedure to update the FTDI drivers is correct. What is the version of mmWave Studio you're using for this purpose though? If you're using an older version, maybe the FTDI drivers are expired.

For the XDS110 COM ports, yes, you only to install from the XDS Emulation Software that is linked in the studio user guide.

Let me consult on this issue internally with the team as well to find out of they've seen this before.

I will get back to you with my insights before the end of this week.

Meanwhile, please send us a picture of your setup as well.

    Regards,

    Ishita

  • I am using an older version of mmWave Studio (1.0.0.0) because it seems like the newest version does not work with AWR1443BOOST ES.2. And I have gotten it to work with this version in the past.

Here is an image of the connections.

  • Hello Hailan,

Sorry for the delay due to holidays.

Were you able to get your setup working? Or are you still facing issues?

In case your FTDI drivers are expired, you can update them using the latest studio version and then switch back to an older version for your device.

    Regards,

    Ishita
