TIDEP-0091: Can not get the right distance in solid measuring environment

We flashed the level_sense_demo.bin to IWR1443 with uniFlash.

We can get pretty good peak dB value for distance from a flat metalic surface, but not in coal mines.

The TIDEP-0091 is a power-optimized level sensing demo that uses just 1 Tx and 1 Rx antenna which means that the sensor will not be able to distinguish angular information. There might be issues with the coal surface since the level is different in different areas. Regardless since you are seeing numbers with acceptable accuracy at 50+ meters is a good result.

Can you share more information about your experiment? What are the dB values you are seeing? Are they similar at closer distances (<10m) ? Also can you share any pictures of your setup?

In TIDEP-0091, there is no dB value conversion, just the top three signal bins. We made some translation then the peek value is more clear for eyes.

With lens, The peak value is 70 to the ceiling 2.5 meters, but only 10 to the coal surface 19 meters, according to our translation.

The setup of IWR1443 is  DEMO_CONFIG100 from SPRCAH9.ZIP.

The peak value discrepancy is expected because there will be less SNR when the sensor is measuring further distances. I don't think this kind of discrepancy is significant. Instead a discrepancy in accuracy might be more significant and worth looking into. Do you observe any kind of discrepancy here?

Yes, you are right. We just find peak value is weakened, the accuracy maybe retains the same, We did't check accuracy very carefully as accuracy is not critical in solid measurement.

In fact, we really want to know, are there any parameter configurations for solid measurement such as coal bunker, to make the peak value more obviously for eyes? increase dB value and decrease noise.

Yes, you are right. 14xx SDK demo get much better dB value. 

However, It seems that One-Tx and One-Rx is the most common in radar Level Transmitter.

And can we design a lens for multi-Tx multi-Rx configuration?
