AWR2243: How to optimize the angle resolution via cascaded AWR

Part Number: AWR2243

Hi, TI expert

It is seen from document that cascaded AWR2243 can increase the radar range profile while lower the angle resolution

As from the swra554a A.1 that angle resolution is dominated by interantenna spacing, size of FFT bin, and angle of arrival-theta

Given theta and FFT bins fixed situation in general for comparison, how does the cascaded AWR reach better resolution with physical nature of antenna spacing?

Please advise

Regards,

Wilson

  • Hi Wilson,

As you know with the increase in antennas in AWR2243 cascade configuration we are able to achieve better angle resolution with a reasonable range resolution in MIMO case. However, AWR2243 cascade allows for TX beamforming method which helps to further increase maximum range with similar angular resolution.

For detailed beamforming methods that can be applied to AWR2243 cascade, request you to please go through this https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/tiduen5a/tiduen5a.pdf TI design document. Under section 3.1 of this doc, you can find the antenna configuration and how its arranged in AWR2243 cascade and under 3.2.2 section you can find the beamforming explanation with its advanced techniques.

Request you to please go through the document and let me know if you have any further questions.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Akshay.
