sensor of pressure on piezo

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV2700, LDC3114

I would like something that would detect pressure on a piezo that would then trigger a response for a voltage to be applied to it.

I thought DRV2700 can do that. However, it can only apply voltage but cannot detect anything external happening to piezo.

Could you suggest  what products I should use?

  • Hello Yuto-san,

Please provide more detail on this request.  When you say "detect pressure on a piezo" are you referring to an external force applied to the physical piezo  device?  For example, someone or something pushing on the piezo similar to pushing a button of a switch?  A diagram would be very helpful.

  • Hello Leonard-san,

Thank you for your reply. Yes, you are right. I want make something like a trackpad. When you press a piezo, the voltage is applied to it. Then, you feel like you truly press a button. The voltage applied to piezo needs to be up to +-250V.

  • If you are considering an option to detect the press then I would recommend that you start with our inductive sensing technology.

Inductive sensing technology enables you to place a coil made from PCB on the case and if the user depresses the case the LDC3114 device can detect the press and can be used to trigger other actions.

Here is an app note to learn more about the technology and its application.

  • Thank you for your reply. I understand that LCD3114 device can detect the press. But what I really want is the product that can detect the voltage produced by a pressed piezo and apply voltage to it. Boréas' product BOS1901-KIT can do that. Is it possible to recreate BOS1901-KIT using TI's product?

  • Hello yes if you can use the previously mentioned device and use the DRV2700 you could replicate their kit.
