IWR6843ISK: Virtual array element phase separation

Hi,

I have calculated the phase separation between the virtual antenna elements as quarter of a wavelength as indicated below. (I used Figure 3.9 in swru546d document as reference)

Can you please confirm that my calculation is correct?

Hi Cagri,

It should be half a wavelength and not quarter of a wavelength for both azimuth and elevation. Check application note below on MIMO Radar from TI.

Hi Sami,

Thank you for this explanation. I found another thread that explains the creation of the virtual array a bit more intuitively. I was mislead by an information I came across a PhD thesis from a reputable university that talks about calculating the midpoints between each TX and RX pair to come up with the virtual array. However, this midpoint approach gives the wrong quarter wavelength result I mentioned above.

The correct way to calculate the array is to copy the complete TX structure to each RX antenna position as explained in the above thread.
