LDC1612: functional safety documents

Part Number: LDC1612
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LDC3114-Q1,
Hi Team,
My customer currently uses LDC1612 to measure the distance to a metallic object.
They need to optimize this electronics in the direction of functional safety.
During their research they noticed, the functional safety documents of LDC3114-Q1 with fit values and also the error modes with the associated probability of occurrence.
  • Are there similar FS documents planned for the LDC1612 or LDC1612-Q1.  That would help them a lot in the new development.
  • Another alternative, of course, would be to replace the LDC1612 with LDC3114-Q1. But if you see another alternative here that is possibly even ASIL-B ready or has an approval after IEC61508.On the one hand, the 3114 is based on the 2114 and the has only 12 bit resolution, but the new 3114 has a 24 bit RAW_DATA value.
We need the great resolution here because we have to recognize both a change of 50µm and a change of up to 1mm. We know that the sensitivity here is not linear, or we try to compensate by a linearization. But the 24-bit resolution of the LDC1612 is essential and the LDC3114-Q1 should deliver the same performance here.

Thanks

Jan

  • Hello Jan,

We do not have any FS documents or any plans to create FS documents for the LDC161x devices.

Since most safety ratings require the whole system view, the FS document is the most we offer currently. The LDC3114-Q1 is our best alternative to the LDC1612. It is a newer device and also has better EMI/EMC performance. You can do the same thing as the LDC1612 with the LDC3114-Q1 once it is put into RAW Data mode.

  • Hello Mister Beigel,

    Thanks for the quick response.

I have bought the EMV. We will check if we can use the LDC3114-Q1 in our product.

    Best Regards,
