OPT3101: Can it be used to measure the distance to the water surface

Our customer has an application to test the distance from the water surface to a certain position. The distance is within 50cm and the error is no more than 5mm. Can you tell me whether this TOF scheme is applicable.

    Hi HY,

    Measuring liquid levels with the OPT3101 will only be reliable when the liquid is opaque. The light from the LED will not be fully reflected by the surface of the water since water is transparent at visible and NIR wavelengths. This issue is characteristic of optical sensors and is not specific to OPT3101. Let me know if you have any more questions.
