TDC7201-ZAX-EVM: Why did the price nearly triple?

Part Number: TDC7201-ZAX-EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TDC7200, , TDC7201

I bought my first TDC7201-ZAX-EVM for $75 a few years ago. I wanted to buy another for backup, and also maybe a TDC7200 one so I can test my driver software's ability to support that chip, but the price is now $199 for each. Is this a temporary situation due to the chip shortage, or is it likely to persist?.

  • Hi Howard,

Prices on EVMs are subject to change, and often vary based on many factors. Fortunately the TDC7201 has not been too drastically affected from shortages, 72k+ stock on TI.com.

As for the pricing, I am unaware of any future plans for adjustment.

Fortunately, we do publish the design files for the PCB and the BOM. If desired, you could manufacture your own PCB and assemble the board with components. This would still require a reasonable amount of effort for one board, but may save a bit on costs.

    Regards,

    Jacob

  • Nod. I currently mount the EVM on a Raspberry Pi interface PCB of my own design, so if I had to make my own EVMs it would probably be better to integrate the EVM functionality with that board. But it is nice having the reference design available.
