DCA1000EVM: mmWave Studio

Part Number: DCA1000EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR1443

Hi,

I got DCA1000 + IWR1443 to collect the data. However, when I try to change the confirg, I find many data are lost. For instance, I set the 3000ADC samples / chirp, 200 chirps/ frame and 5 frames in totally. There should be 3000000 samples. However, after I unpack the raw data, there is only 952000 samples. Further, when I collect data and click DCA1000ARM Trigger Frame, everything works well. When I collect PostProc, something goes wrong. Figures show the SensorConfig and output. So why some data is missing? Are there any config that I set them wrong?

Thank you,

Wu

  • Hello Wu,

I see you're using mmWave Studio 01_00_00_00. Does that mean you have an older version of IWR1443 device i.e. ES2.0?

If that is not the case, then you need to download the latest version i.e. mmWave Studio 02_01_01_00.

On the packet loss, can you increase the inter packet delay on the DCA1000 to see if that helps?

  • Hi,

I am using IWR1443 ES2.0 so I have to use mmWave studio 1.0.

Where is the packet delay? Is the packet delay the same as trigger delay(fig)? What is the function of trigger delay?

    Thanks,

    Wu

  • Hello Wu,

if you scroll left in mmWave Studio, you will see a button of "Set up DCA1000". If you click that, a new window will appear and the "packet delay" option is there. You can increase the packet delay to 50us or 75us and try.

The trigger delay option in Frame config corresponds to the time delay when you press the "Start Frames" button and when the actual framing starts.

Also, I wanted to let you know that due to festive holidays in India, I would be able to get back to your follow up questions (if you may have after this) next week. Sorry for the inconvenience caused due to this and I sincerely apologize for the delay in advance.

    Regards,

    Ishita

  • Hi,

I change the packet delay from 25us to 75us. And I change the sample/chirp from 2000 to 2100. However, it does not work. figure shows many data is lost. So I consider this problem is not caused by the packet delay. So how can I handle this?

Furthermore, when I set 2000sample/chirp and 25us delay, it works. I check the data and find in every chirp, the 1000th to 2000th sample is 0(shown in figure). And also I change the packet delay from 25us to 75us. And the same, half of the samples is zero. What causes this? And how can I handle this?

The config is shown in figures. Based on the graph, the

    Thanks,

    Wu

  • Based on the config, 2100samples can be collected with in the (ramp end time - ADC start time) with 18MHz sampling rate.

  • Hello Jiacheng,

Sorry for the delay due to holidays in India.

So based on your observations do you mean that the below config works fine without any packet loss?

Furthermore, when I set 2000sample/chirp and 25us delay, it works.

Also, does the below config also work fine?

2100samples can be collected with in the (ramp end time - ADC start time) with 18MHz sampling rate.

Can you send in your exact chirp config or configuration script for me to replicate this at my end?

    Regards,

    Ishita
