HDC2021: Sensors design questions

Hi Team,

My customer is surveying our sensor HDC2021, below questions need your comment:

  1. If customer need high accuracy temp. sense, the accuracy spec need is tolerance +-1C under -40~125C, will you suggest to use   HDC2021 or HDC302x ?
  2. What is the detail function of NIST Traceability?
  3. What is the purpose with the protective tape ? Should customer remove it in SMT product or it didn't need to remove ?
  4. We have HDC2022 and HDC3022, it feature IP67, IP67 here mean IC can work when there is water on the surface ? When IC power on or when the system has no power?
  5. How can customer judge themselves should to use Removable protective tape version or IP67 version of solution ?

  • Hello,

    1. The HDC3020 family has wider input voltage range, higher accuracy, uses a command based interface and has a slightly smaller package. The HDC2022 is faster and is register map based.
    2. The HDC3 family is tested on NIST traceable equipment which has been verified by ISO standards. This ensures a standardized calibration to eliminate measurement errors.
    3. The HDC3021 has a tape cover, and is available for applications in which the board will be washed or conformally coated, and the tape is removed after these operations, before being placed into service. The HDC3022 has a permanent filter installed over it, which is hydrophobic and can block particles down to 100nm, it is available for applications that might have environmental airborne contaminants or have significant water exposure.
    4. HDC2022/HDC3022 can continue to work when the device is exposed to water due to the rating and hydrophobic coating. 
    5. This depends on the end application - if the part may be exposed to contaminants or water, I would suggest the HDC3022. If the board might get washed, exposed to some chemicals during assembly process, I would suggest the HDC3021.

    If the cover of HDC3021 is not removed, will there be a chance to be confirmed when using it?
    For example, if customer need a mechanism to check the cover had remove or not after SMT and washed, what mechanism can be used ?

    Unfortunately there isn't any software register or any mechanism to check if the cover has been removed or not. The only way we can tell if the cover is not removed is by measuring humidity. There are a few cases where the humidity measurement was different on a device with a cover and without a cover.
