DCA1000EVM: mmWave Studio

Part Number: DCA1000EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR1443

Hi,

I got a DCA1000EVM and IWR1443 mmWave radar. I can collect the data with mmWave studio. I am not sure my following understanding is correct.

When I click DCA1000ARM and Trigger Frame, the file of adc_data_Raw.bin is created. The maximum of each file is 1Gb . So if the data is larger than 1Gb, the data will be separated such as adc_data_Raw_0.bin and adc_data_Raw_1.bin. When I click the PostProc, the file named adc_data.bin will be created.

However, when I unpack adc_data.bin, I find a lot of data are missed. There is not any error reported by the Output. Do you know why so many data are missed? Are there any size limit for the adc_data.bin?

Thanks,

Wu

  • I know how to handle this. But new problem happens. After I click the frame trigger, I find the light of DDR_FULL and FPGA_EER is red. I checked the handbook, and find that it is because DDR3 memory is full and internal buff is full. So, under this condition, is this data still reliable? If not, besides reducing the data number, how can I handle this?

  • Hello Wu,

I see you're using mmWave Studio 01_00_00_00. Does that mean you have IWR1443 ES2.0?

Also, If the expected file size of the raw data collected is less than 1 GB (for example, when only a few frames are captured), than the captured file will be less than 1 GB. In case of large or infinite captures (like your case), once the size of the captured file reaches 1 GB, then this file is capped at that size and a new file will be created to ensure all of the raw data is collected. This is consistent with what you're observing.

Now coming to post processing, instead of pressing the button after data capture, can you try stand alone post processing and post process one of the adc_data_raw_x.bin files? You can refer to the mmWave studio user guide for this purpose.

On the LEDs, I will have to check and get back. what is the version of the DCA1000 FPGA firmware you're using here? The latest one is 2.8.
