AWR6843: Question about the possibility on Real-time distance measurement

Hi Champs

There's a question that customer would like to get clarified.

They would like to use Radar sensor to measure the door position of the car.

Please check the possibility below.

1. Measurement Range : 80mm ~ 150mm

2. Resolution : 2mm

It seems the condition above is not supported by Automotive Toolbox' lab.

Please let us know if the above requirement could be archieved by design changes of antenna and firmware.

If the their requirement is not met, Plase also let us know the possible range and resolution.

Hello,

In terms of maximum range and range resolution and what trade offs are associated with those parameters I believe it would be beneficial to view the following resource:

To address your question directly maximum range is limited by the ADC sample rate, but the measurement range is very small but well above the range resolution, so I believe you are okay on that front. The range resolution is related to the maximum BW that the device can support which is 4GHz which maps to a practical range resolution of 6cm which is substantially larger than 2mm.
