OPT3001: OPT3004

Part Number: OPT3001
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPT3004

Hello,

Similar inquiry, customer is using on the card OPT3001 or OPT3004 pending availability.
According to the product testing, OPT3004 needs a slight lux measurement correction.
This will be automatically compensated in the software, but when reading the device ID the return value for 3001/3004 is the same (3001h).

The question is if there is any way to identify which OPT is installed by register read (or such)

Thank you

  • Hi,

Lux performance is the same between OPT3001 and 4 so a correction for 3004 is not expected. Can you elaborate on this need? We do not have a good way to do differentiation this using register reads for this purpose.

    Best,

    Alex

  • Hello Alex,

What is the limitation so the new OPT3004 has the same register ID (3001) as the OPT3001?
Would it be differentiated, the use either in the same location would be transparent to manufacturing via automated ID detection selecting the appropriate programming settings.

As for calibration differences, I can only speculate that a wide angle 3004 will have a different light sensitivity cardioid (not in the datasheet) than the OPT3001.

Since the sensor is on a PCB distanced form the box wall, and box light sensing window is small, I would expect the optical characteristics of the system to differ and calibration to follow

    Thank you

  • Hi Cosmin,

Closing out since handling over email.
