AWR1843BOOST: Team please help me with the long range detection

Part Number: AWR1843BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1843,

Hi TI

I checked some of the old threads, it's been answered that the AWR1843 could be extended the range to 150m.

Now I am running the traffic monitoring Lab config, which can achieve the detection of 75 meters. My detection object is the vehicle.

Could anybody help me to extend the range to around 150 meters in Lab traffic monitoring interface?

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi,

We have tested robust detection with AWR1843BOOST up to 120m. There is detection possible at 150m but with AWR1843BOOST it will not be robust. You would need a different high gain antenna.

In order to achieve longest range detection you would need to use the full L3 memory for the radar cube.

    In order to test 150m:

    1) Need to create a chirp configuration for this range

Please refer to the following configuration.

    mmwave_automotive_toolbox_3_3_0__win\mmwave_automotive_toolbox_3_#_#\labs\lab0007_medium_range_radar\src\common\mrr_config_chirp_design_MRR120.h

    2) Need to make sure that the traffic monitoring demo can support this chirp configuration.

You would need to test it yourself

Unfortunately the team that developed the traffic monitoring demo is no longer available for support

    thank you

    Cesar

  • Hi Cesar

Thank you so much for reply. i have used the automotive lab to run the cofig.

    I have two more questions

    1. Can I modify the config file to remove the static targets?

    2. I used the pre-build binary now and change the GUI (maximum depth) to 150 meters that were originally 80 meters. But I am not sure if I need to further modify the config file to achieve this range.

  • i have another issue need help. Now I am running the Automotive Toolbox (3.5.0), lab/medium-range radar. with AWR1843boost

After recording the data to a file, I tried to replay it to get the recorded data in Matlab workspace. However, after i click the replay and set the correct file path, the MatLab is still in monitoring mode.

This could be done with 4.7.0/lab/traffic monitoring. After setting the record file path and replay the file, the recorded data will be show up in the Matlab worksapce, but it seems not the same in  Automotive Toolbox (3.5.0), lab/medium-range radar

Does this mean something wrong with this interface?

    Thanks

    Lu

  • Hi,

Your observation is correct. The lab/medium-range radar does not support replay the recorded data. matlab scripts that implemented this feature initially for development are provided but not validated.

In the "lab/medium-range radar" it is not possible to remove the static objects. You could modify the demo to add this feature.

    Thank you

    Cesar

  • Hi Cesar

Thanks. The reason i want to replay is to parse the recorded data to Matlab workspace, so i can further process my monitoring data. I do need more help as i cannot find the answer from starter guide. My goal is to detect vehicle around 150 meters and save the data for further process. So my problem right now is MRR could detect lone range targets but unable to parse the record file and traffic monitoring lab could easily parse the record file to matlab workspace but unable to detect long range objects.

For automotive 3.3.0 or 3.5.0, lab medium-range radar

Firstly of all, i think the best way is to rebuild the chirp configuration based on medium-range radar to work on 4.7.0 lab traffic monitoring. Then i could record and replay the data easily, i would try it now. if this does not work well, i have two more questions to work in another way.

Secondly, if continue with medium-range radar

    1. If the record function working? Does this require a file name extension? For example, record.txt.?

    2. If the replay is not supported, could you give me some instruction that i can parse the record data? I need the x ,y, location, and speed information frame by frame, so i could fusion this with my other sensors for traffic monitoring purpose.

    Thanks in advance

    Regards

    Lu

  • Hi,

Unfortunately I don't have any information regarding if the recording capability is working or not.

I recommend you review the implementation

    labs\lab0007_medium_range_radar_aop\gui\MRRvisualization\read_file_and_plot_object_location.m

There is no additional support our team can provide regarding this feature.

    Thank you

    Cesar

  • Hi

I'd like to confirm if i understand this right. Does this mean the medium-range radar will not have any more support in the future? If the recording and replay are not working, it could only visualize the detection during the monitoring time and will not be able to re-process the recording data to construct the scenario again?

    Thanks

    Lu

  • Hi,

This means that there are no plans to provide further updates to this demo. The developer of this gui is no longer available for support.

I encourage you to review the implementation and update as needed.

    Thank you

    Cesar

  • Thanks for the help, i will do some further research on it

  • Thank you
