LDC3114-Q1: As replacement for LDC1662 in Proximity Detection EMI Considerations

Part Number: LDC3114-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LDC3114, LDC1612

Hello,

Currently I am using the LDC1662 for a linear proximity Detection.
Now I need a functional safety capable device so I am interested in the LDC3114-Q1.

Now i have a question about the measurement of the inductance.
The LDC1662 uses a differential method while the LDC3114-Q1 uses a single ended method.

I am unsure if this affects the EMI. The LDC1662 has a dedicated "input Deglitch Filter" and i haven't found something like that in the documents of the LDC3114-Q1.
Further in the EVM of the LDC1662 there are some EMI "Protections" in the measurement loop. Are there any options for the single ended method too?

Is the new LDC3114-Q1 as stable as the LDC1662 in harsh and noisy environments?

What are the main changes about EMI when changing from differential to single ended measurement?

Best Regards,

Florian

  • Hello Florian,

The LDC3114 is a newer part and offers better EMI/EMC performance than the LDC1612. The dedicated COM pin on the LDC3114 and sensor driver update removes the need to have the additional EMI filtering in the measurement loop. This is also why there is no "input deglitch filter" option on the LDC3114.
