Ultrasonic Sensor Advice

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PGA460

Hi

We are working on an ultrasonic project, we are experimenting with an ultrasonic transducer as shown in the attached datasheet. The datasheet shows the following schematic. Is there an alternative option available from TI for achieving the same circuit using one of your AFE devices? And if so what advantage of using an IC compared to the schematic.  I have also seen that there could be a transformerless options?

We intend to use a microcontroller, with UART. Is it as simple as TX a message and then waiting for the delayed message to determine the sensing result? Or do we also need to observe the analogue signal?

Please recommend what parts I should consider?

Thank You

DJ

  • Hi Dharmesh,

Thanks for reaching and apologies for delay in response.

I could not understand your application properly. Can you please explain the end application and system requirements?

Our team mainly focuses on highly sophisticated and high performance transmit and receive devices for medical ultrasound and I don't see those fitting into your query.

As an initial step, you can look at TIs ultrasonic driver such as PGA460. https://www.ti.com/product/PGA460

Please refer to the datasheet to understand more about its advantages and see if it aligns with what you are looking for. For transmitting higher voltage ultrasound signals, you will need a transformer.

    Thanks & regards,

    Abhishek

  • Hi Abhishek

    Thank you for your reply.

We are doing a project were we aim to measure moisture levels in various types substrates using ultrasonic. Fundamentally we need to measure both the propagation delay and signal intensity.

With these ICS, can you vary the output power?
