IWR1443BOOST: Lane detection

Part Number: IWR1443BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR6843

Dear Experts,

We would like to design industrial floor robots that move in guiding lanes from one point of the factory to another.

Would the IWR1443BOOST with mmWave sensors are recommended for for detections of guiding lanes for

the robot? If not, what would be a better solution?

Thanks,

Andras

  • Hello

TI's mmWave sensors can be used to detect a variety of  physical objects/obstacles in Robot's direct path as well as the periphery.

Please see our offerings around 60Ghz  band sensors : IWR mmWave Sensors | Robotics, it will help you understand how the mmWave/Radar view as seen by Robots.

For evaluation purpose we recommend starting with IWR6843 family of devices as you will find relevant ready to use software examples and guides for it:

TI offers industrial and automotive grade sensors in 60Ghz and 77Ghz Frequency band with matching features and performance and as such most of the Software examples can be easily ported between the two family of devices.

Hope this helps you get started.

    Thank you,

    Vaibhav

  • Hi Vaibhav,

Thanks for the answer. I watched the demo and I think it is also fine to guide the robot manually and to save the map of the ruote.

We do not necessarily need guiding lanes.

So basically what we are interested in is that we need to program an autonomous robot for autonomous ruote completion and also object detection with a 'stop' command till someone or something does not go out of his way.

    Thanks,
    Andras

The example provided in previous response shows how one can do using ROS based demo. Hope that serves as a starting point for your development.

Please let us know if any more help is needed.
