IWR6843AOPEVM: Help adjusting .cfg parameters with demo software

Part Number: IWR6843AOPEVM

I am using the demo visualizer tool to take data recordings of an object as it approaches the sensor, which is fixed in place. When I plot the data from these recordings (I’ve filtered out data points where velocity=0), I get a pretty nice representation of the object approaching the sensor, which is the circled collection of red bubbles. All of those other bubbles, however, are unwanted noise, as nothing else in the scene was moving. I want to experiment with different configurations in the .cfg file to try to eliminate those unwanted data points, but am running into some trouble.

I know that some of my issues are discussed in this post, but I wanted to add on some questions. It seems almost any attempt I make to modify the .cfg file won’t cooperate with the mmwave demo visualizer. So my questions are:

  1. Is the demo visualizer the limiting factor, or are my configurations not compatible with with the out-of-box demo firmware? (
  2. Are there any resources that describe the limitations of what configurations will work specifically with the demo firmware, so I can save some trial-and-error?
  3. If I can’t use the out-of-box firmware, or can’t use the demo visualizer, are there similar firmware builds or tools that will allow a little more flexibility, but still allow me to easily collect this data?
  4. Any other suggestions to how I might approach this problem?

Thanks for your time!

  • Hi,

You can also try the People Counting Visualizer, that can be found under the people counting labs in the mmWave Industrial Toolbox. This visualizer is python based and supports the Out-Of-Box-Demo. This should give you a comparison point.

    Best Regards,
