IWR1443: mmWave for detecting the edge of conveyor belt

Hi Team,

Our customer will use the mmWave sensor to measure the shift of conveyor belt from its position from time to time. She plans to put the mmWave (perpendicular) 20-30mm away from the conveyor to detect its edge of about 5mm-30mm thickness. She would like to know if the mmWave is the right solution for this application. Can she use the occupancy demo to start with?

Will there be any objects on the conveyor belt? In addition, do you have any images or diagrams of the setup so I may better understand your application?

They want to detect slip distance from time to time by putting mmWave sensor perpendicular with the edge of the conveyor belt.

We have received this additional information from our customer.

As I explain before we want to measure Sensor-to-Belt#1 distance and Sensor-to-Belt#2 distance.

This is the setup.

based on Wall experiment with mmWave, I made point-cloud prediction and profile prediction (my own opinion referring to Wall experiment).

Do you have opinion about this?

Hi Danilo,

I believe this can be a good application of mmWave radar. Using the point cloud height and location, you could measure the delta between the two belts and the metal between the belts.
