MMWCAS-DSP-EVM: DRA7xx EVM out of box u-boot and rootfs flash to SD card not booting

Part Number: MMWCAS-DSP-EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRA742, PCF8575, DRA752, TDA2, PMP

This question seems to be related to the following posts, but I am unable to understand if / how this may apply to my problem:

https://e2e.ti.com/support/processors-group/processors/f/processors-forum/847674/tda2sa-linux-kernel-stop-at-waiting-for-root-device-partuuid-85698e31-02

https://e2e.ti.com/support/processors-group/processors/f/processors-forum/713717/linux-tda2pxevm-hangs-on-waiting-for-root-device-partuuid-6179c7ef-02

When running the command to place the default sdk provided u-boot and root filesystem onto a flash SD card:

$ sudo ./bin/mksdboot.sh --device /dev/sdd --sdk /home/wcram/ti-processor-sdk-linux-automotive-dra7xx-evm-6.00.00.03

It ultimately hangs on "Waiting for root device PARTUUID=9f29d0be-02..."

NOTE: I have compared the output from this to the output seen from the TI provided flash drive and I have noticed the u-boot version is different from the SDK built / provided u-boot.

  • Hi,

The boot and rootfs pre-built binaries for cascade EVM should be download from this link.

    https://www.ti.com/tool/download/PROCESSOR-SDK-VISION#downloads

I think you were using the default filesystem for J6/TDA2 EVM. It doesn't include the support for Cascade EVM.

    Regards,
    Stanley

  • I used this and got the device to boot, however the default build does not support a working network.  First the default network that is configured in this default binary kernel sets the ip to be DHCP, however when I connected it to a router the device would not accept an address. I did managed to find the kernel files that allowed me to change the default IP setting for Eth0 and set it to static, and give it the 192.168.33.180 address that the prior SD card was configured with, and I still could not ping the board even though I could ping it when booting the previous SD card (the SD card that came with the product).

I noticed that it did have an IPV6 address and so I set my windows ethernet to have an IPV6 address the same as the device with the last number different by 1, and I was unable to ping the board.  I was able to verify that I could ping the previous SD card's (the SD card that came with the product) IPV6 address,

Default SD Card Radar Cascade Linux (Working)

I show my PC pinging it's own IPV6 address and then pinging the board's IPV6 address

    Default SD Cascade Linux Working

SDK 03080000 Radar Cascade Linux Binaries:

I show my PC pinging it's own IPV6 address and then attempting to ping the board's IPV6 address (with no success)

  • Just as an FYI, I also ran the apps.out executable and it appeared to throw an assertion for OSA_memInit:

  • Could you try replacing the MLO and u-boot.img you built with the copy from SD card (come with the board) and see if DHCP and network is fine?

I recalled there was a patch in bootloader for Ethernet so maybe that's missing.

    Regards,
    Stanley

  • I tried this and it would not boot the kernel image.  I forgot to mention this, but the new kernel that boots seems to think the device has two ethernet interfaces, which is different from the original kernel, and the board only supports 1 Ethernet PHY.
