AWR2243BOOST: How to identify AWR2243 ES2.0 device?

Part Number: AWR2243BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DCA1000EVM, AWR2243, UNIFLASH, IWR1642, IWR1642BOOST, AWR1243

Hi,

I was using a AWR2243Boost and DCA1000EVM to collect raw ADC data.

I flashed xwr22xx_radarss.bin and xwr22xx_masterss.bin under C:\ti\mmwave_studio_03_00_00_14\rf_eval_firmware\AWR2243_ES1_1

Studio CLI claims to support AWR2243 ES2.0 device in C:\ti\mmwave_platform_1_2_1\tools\studio_cli\docs\mmwave_studio_cli_developer's_guide.pdf

My AWR2243Boost is Rev A. How to identify it is a AWR2243 ES2.0 device or not?

Thanks!

Best,

Hang

  • Hello Hang,

You can refer to the "Device Markings" section of the AWR2243 Errata to identify if your device is ES1.0 or ES1.1.

I think by mistake the document calls out AWR2243 ES1.1 as ES2.0.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Ishita

  • Hi Ishita,

Thank you very much! My device is ES1.1. I have identify it.

From the C:\ti\mmwave_platform_1_2_1\tools\studio_cli\docs\mmwave_studio_cli_developer's_guide.pdf (page 11), in order to use Studio CLI with AWR2243 ES1.1, I need to flash the firmware to the device beforehand.

However, I was unable to flash the firmware by using uniflash. Here are my steps:

    (1) On AWR2243Boost connect SOP0 and SOP2, disconnect SOP1.

    (2) Open Uniflash and load firmware from C:\ti\mmwave_studio_03_00_00_14\rf_eval_firmware\AWR2243_ES1_1

    (3) Set com port in Settings & Utilities.

    (4) Click Load Images. I got error as below.

May I ask if any step I was wrong?

    Thank you so much!

  • Hello Hang,

Looks like Uniflash is not able to recognize the device properly.

Have you taken a look at our FAQ page for this : https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensors-group/sensors/f/sensors-forum/856044/faq-mmwave-sensor--uniflash-related-queries

Please see if this helps and let us know if the issue still persists.

    Regards,

    Ishita

  • Hi Ishita,

Thank you very much! I have read it. However, it still did not work.

    Here are my steps.

    (1) I have confirmed that there are no problems with the power supply and the USB cable. Because I can successfully flash the image bin file to my IWR1642 through Uniflash

    (2)  On AWR2243Boost connect SOP0 and SOP2, disconnect SOP1. From the marking on the chip, I identify it as ES1.1.

    (3) Connect the power supply and USB cable. Open Uniflash 6.3.0. Note that on the AWR2243Boost surface, it is marked as Rev A, in Uniflash it was recognized as Rev B

    (4) Load firmware from C:\ti\mmwave_studio_03_00_00_14\rf_eval_firmware\AWR2243_ES1_1, these firmware worked on mmwave studio 3.0, when I collected raw ADC data using DCA1000EVM.

    (5) Click load image, error as below.

    (6) An extra try, I was able to Format SFLASH. However, I was not able to load the image as above.

Thank you very much for the help!

  • Hello Hang,

A couple of points here :

    1. You would need to flash the metaimage here and not the "rf_eval_firmware". You can find that in the mmWave_DFP firmware for the corresponding device : :\ti\mmwave_dfp_xx_xx_xx_xx\firmware

    2. I forgot to bring this to your attention that the Current version of mmWave Studio CLI tool supports AWR2243 ES1.0 only. A new version of the tool will be released for ES1.1 soon.

Hope this gives you some clarification.

    Regards,

    Ishita

  • Hi Ishita,

Thank you very much! However, it still didn't work.

    I tried both

    (1) C:\ti\mmwave_dfp_02_02_03_01\firmware\xwr22xx_metaImage.bin

    (2) C:\ti\mmwave_dfp_02_02_03_01\firmware\radarss\xwr2xxx_radarss_rprc.bin and C:\ti\mmwave_dfp_02_02_03_01\firmware\masterss\xwr22xx_mss_rprc.bin

None of the above worked. Again, I was successful to flash the bin file to IWR1642Boost. Do you have any idea what happened?

    Thanks a lot!

    Best,

    Hang

  • Hi Hang,

Could you select AWR1243 device instead of AWR2243 in the UniFlash tool to flash  C:\ti\mmwave_dfp_02_02_03_01\firmware\xwr22xx_metaImage.bin unser MetaImage1 option.

    Regards,

    Jitendra

  • Hi Jitendra,

It worked! Thank you very much!

I guess this is the device recognition issue of Uniflash. Should I stick to this method? My AWR2243Boost is Rev A. In Uniflash, it was recognized as Rev. B.
