PGA900: PGA900

Part Number: PGA900
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PGA400-Q1, , PGA300, PGA305

Hi,  I am working on developing pressure transmitters using piezo-resistive bridge sensors.

I am looking for the best chip for ratiometric application to automobiles.

Could you please compare the PGA900 based method and the PGA400-Q1 based method

with respect to performances, PCB size, reliability and other advantages, disadvantages and risks.

The more detailed the better.

Regarding on PGA400-Q1, I know there is a reference design of TIDA-00793.

Thanks.

  • Hello Kitae,

The PGA400 is not recommended for new designs at this time. Depending on your application, the PGA300 or PGA305 might be better choices than the PGA900. The PGA300 and PGA305 have the same analog front end and DAC output stage as the PGA900, but they have integrated digital compensation engines that can be used to calibrate your sensors. The same functionality can be achieved with the PGA900, but it requires custom firmware development.

The main difference between the PGA300 and the PGA305 is that PGA300 only has 16-bit ADCs and can only communicate through OWI, while the PGA305 has 24-bit ADCs and can also communicate through I2C. Please review these options to see if they will meet your needs.
