AWR1843BOOST: Relationship between the XYZ coordinates of radar cloud point and the the XYZ coordinates of an observed object.

I am using an18443BOOST to characterize an object. I am getting sufficient cloud points for the characterization but how do I relate the XYZ coordinates of the radar to the actual position on the scanned object? I need to know what area of the object is being scanned. Additionally, is RX 1 the reference point on the radar?

Hi,

Object mapping needs to be done manually if you don't have camera Fusion with the Radar system.

Object result are calculated all the Rx together, (until changed the default device configuration).

Thanks for replying.

I do not have a camera as part of my setup at the moment. However, I understand from your answer that I could calibrate manually, and from reading the previous discussion on a related question I can select the midpoint of the distance between the TX and RX antennas as my reference, is this correct?

This distance is being incorporated within processing chain of mmwave sensor.

I have looked through the postings and answers. I have concluded that I will have to calibrate the EVM at the very short range I am working. Could you point me to a calibration tutorial or procedure?

Aligning camera and radar is a technical problem. There are many research happening on this, you need to search relevant papers on this.

Antenna distance (Rx and TX) won't impact this except you are trying for very close objects (near field sensing).

You can use azimuth and elevation information from both sources (camera and radar) and try to map that. Radar is better in range resolution whereas camera is better in angle resolution, so you need to consider this info as well while mapping of the objects.
