IWR6843ISK: invalid lvdsMode value [error -4016] during initial setup, followed by unable to read FPGA version [error -5]

Part Number: IWR6843ISK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MMWAVEICBOOST, , DCA1000EVM

Hello

I have the setup of a DCA1000evm, an mmwaveICBOOST and an IWR6843ISK. It has had a lot of issues, but today, a new one appeared.

Yesterday it worked somewhat fine, once I got around the Calling_ConnectTarget returned 3 error at step 3 in mmwave studio.

But today, there is trouble from the beginning. As step one after opening mmwave studio, I press SetUp DCA1000 and once I press Connect, Reset and Configure, I get invalid lvdsMode value [error -4016].

If I continue from here, I can do reset control, but when I press connect in RS232 Operations, I then get unable to read FPGA version [error -5].

Yesterday, none of those errors came up, but today, it happens consistently. I've rebooted the laptop and reconnected all the wires several times. Nothing helps.

The setup does not work on the other computer I have either, but there, I get no errors before the Calling_ConnectTarget returned 3 error at step 3 in mmwave studio.

I have checked the debug manual, but the only suggestion I see there is about arming and about selecting the right device. I have selected the right device and I don't even get to the arming point before the error message, so it doesn't solve the problem.

It should also be noted that the lamp on my ICBoost board for IWR HW error is glowing red, so maybe my board is just broken, but it is strange how inconsistent it is in whether it will work or not.

The setup worked yesterday or displayed an entirely different error, the one I described in

https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensors-group/sensors/f/sensors-forum/1067739/iwr6843isk-inconsistent-error-connection-failed-calling_connecttarget-returned-3/3960986#3960986

Speaking of which, I am somewhat annoyed that despite my added information on that subject, no response has been forthcoming for several days.

  • Hello Aske,

I sincerely apologize for the delay in response at my end. I did not mean to keep you hanging for such a long time.

So I see you're past this error "Calling_ConnectTarget returned 3" on a different PC. I'm guessing there are some USB/COM port issues with your previous machine which are probably posing some problem in RS232 connect. I also have an alternative for you in that case, will respond on your previous thread.

Regarding this error that you're now getting... it is solely dependent on the DCA1000 connection. Make sure you have the latest FPGA firmware flashed in the DCA1000 and is not corrupted. Sometimes the firewalls also blocks the DCA1000 ports which leads to this error.

Can you also highlight your sequence of steps after starting the mmWave Studio Application? What exact buttons are you pressing and in what sequence to get to this error state and what is the version of the studio application in this case?

It would be good to have a screenshot/snippet of your connection window as well on mmWave Studio.

Again, very sorry for the delay. I will do my best to get your issue resolved as soon as possible. Thanks for understanding.

    Regards,

    Ishita

  • No, I have not found a way to consistently get around the returned 3 error. It happens on and off and on the laptop mentioned, it somtimes works, sometimes it gets returned 3 and sometimes it gets error -4016 right at the start.

Now I have a new IWR board too and while it seems to work, it still lights up red for NERROUT.

  • Correction. It does not light up for NERROUT, I misread the lights. But I once again have the same error of -4016 and returned 3, with the new IWR board. It worked perfectly well this morning after setup, but after a single reboot of the PC I used, I have consistently gotten invalid lvds , error -4016, and returned 3 errors on it.

I did not change anything about the setup, only rebooting the pc and now it doesn't work, even if I reconnect all the wires.

It seems that there might be an issue with the mmwaveICboost board. Both lights for SOP2 and SOP0 are glowing yellow and the light for SOP1 is glowing very faintly. This is in spite of jumpers on SOP0 and SOP1.

In addition, the light on NRESET is also glowing very faintly.

  • Hello Aske,

    Thanks for detailing your observations

In addition, the light on NRESET is also glowing very faintly.

Since you mentioned this, can you cross check the specification of the power supply used in this case? Please refer to the user guide for minimum current value and ensure you comply to that.

That can also sometimes lead to an error you're getting after connecting to RS232.

    Regards,

    Ishita
