AWR2944: The relation between the bandwidth and Maximum IF bandwidth

In the radar waveform design, are the bandwidth B and the Maximum IF bandwidth IFmax equal? Or are they actually the same？

When we design the waveform, firstly the ADC sampling frequency is an factor to deside the Maximum IF bandwidth, actually once the Maximum IF bandwidth is selected, the bandwidth B can be decided.In the datasheet,the max bandwith can be 4G,but maximum ADC sampling frequency in theTI’s radar devices is 45 MHz (AWR22xx) ,how can the bandwidth 4GHz be achieved? I am very confused about that .

Hello Rata,

Maximum Intermediate frequency (IF) and Sweep Bandwidth (B) are two different things.

Sweep Bandwidth refers to the chirp sweep bandwidth which depends on Chirp start frequency and its slope. You can sweep a chirp from 77-81GHz providing 4 GHz of chirp bandwidth B.

IF signal in turn corresponds to the difference of the instantaneous frequencies of the two input sinusoids, signals being the TX and the RX signal.

ADC sampling rate (hence IF BW) can help you with the range of the object in detection, whereas the Chirp sweep bandwidth helps in range resolution.
