MMWCAS-RF-EVM:Question about the data in the first frame

Part Number: MMWCAS-RF-EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MMWCAS-DSP-EVM,

Dear Texas Instruments,

I tried 3D point cloud with mmwave Studio 3.0.0.14 using MMWCAS-RF-EVM and evaluation board (MMWCAS-DSP-EVM).

Looking at the Range Profile, it seems that only the data in the first frame receives radio waves at regular intervals.
The target is located at a position of 2m. (The target is stationary.)

I was able to see the exact distance of the target after the second frame.

I don't understand why the data in the first frame does not indicate the target distance.
Does the first frame actually emit radio waves?

Also, how short can the frame interval time be?

・ Data in the first frame

・ Data after 2 frames

Thank You,

Your help is much appreciated!

  • Hi,

I remember some time ago that there was an issue with the first captured frame. It is possible that this is what the behavior is here.

I recommend that you ignore the first frame.

The frame duration must be long enough to allow the the reception of all the chirps in the frame.

The theoretical range of the frame periodicity is documented in Radar Interface Control document provided in the mmWave DFP

    C:\ti\mmwave_dfp_02_04_00_01\docs\mmWave-Radar-Interface-Control.pdf

    FRAME_PERIODICITY is in rabge [100 μs, 1.342 s]

    Thank you

    Cesar
