FDC2214: Capacitive measurement

Part Number: FDC2214
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: FDC1004

Hi,

Good day.

Our customer is in need of making capacitive measurements with a range around 0fF to 10pF with a resolution of ideally 10aF. Would FDC2214 the correct IC for this case or would you recommend another IC?

Thank you for your help.

Regards,

Cedrick

  • Hello Cedrick,

The FDC2214 is designed around sensing the change in capacitance rather than measuring capacitance directly and has a noise floor of 0.3fF. It would be a tough challenge to get the desired resolution using this part.

Our other capacitive sensing part FDC1004, has active shielding which helps in high resolution applications, but has a measurement resolution of 0.5fF. Getting the 10aF resolution is not something that our FDC lineup can support at this time.

    Best Regards,
