IWR6843AOPEVM: Connection to raspberry pi 3B+

Part Number: IWR6843AOPEVM

Hi,

When I connect the IWR6843AOPEVM sensor to a Windows computer, the USB_LED diode turns on and after a while it turns off. However, when I connect the sensor to my raspberry pi 3B +, the USB_LED is on all the time. I've not found description in the user guide so tried sensor restart, connect Power USB without any effect. In the raspberry pi os I can see /dev/ttyUSB0 and /dev/ttyUSB1 after connecting sensor.

Do you know what USB_LED glowing all the time means?

Best regards

  • Hello Maciek,

Thanks for reaching out to Texas Instruments. The USB LED glows when the EVM is communicating via USB cable.

The LED glows continuously with raspberry pi 3B + because the EVM is communicating with it all the time. This will not be the case with your PC. The LED will light up when you connect to your PC and then turn off when there is no communication between the two. Now, when you send a command to the EVM or read the data off of the EVM, you will notice that the USB LED will glow again. You can try doing this with TI's mmwWave Visualizer on your PC : https://dev.ti.com/gallery/view/mmwave/mmWave_Demo_Visualizer/ver/3.5.0/.
