OPT3101: Questions about OPS3101 application details

Hi team,

My customer wants to use OPT3101 to sense the vehicle position at the road side. So there are some confusion about this device.

1. How about the power consumption of this device and whether it can be battery powered.

2. What is the requirement of vision window on this module.

3. Whether this device can detect dynamic objects

4.What is the applications of this device and whether it can be used outdoors?

Hi Jasper,

1. The OPT3101 current usage will depend on the LED current draw and the LED active time. Keeping these low will lower the power draw and increase the viability of powering with a battery.

2. Section 7 of the below app note explains the optical requirements of the system design.

3. Can you elaborate what you mean by dynamic objects? Do you mean moving objects? The sensor can measure distance so it is capable of detecting objects passing in front of the sensor or moving closer/further from the sensor.

4. The device can be used outdoors, one of the key features is its ability to reject ambient sunlight. The applications are detailed in the first page of the datasheet but some of them include object and distance sensing for industrial automation and obstacle avoidance and detection for robotic vehicles such as drones.

Thanks for your support. My customer wants to use this device to detect car position. As your explained upper, OPT3101 meets the requirement from function aspect.
