IWR6843ISK: Automotive standards

Part Number: IWR6843ISK

Hi,

This thread is to understand the automotive and industrial standards for the radar sensors. I have that leveraging the scalability and compatibility of TI’s mmWave product portfolio, capability has been ported to the 60GHz band for unlicensed use around the world. I understood that for using 60GHz band  we do not need any license but for 77GHz we do need a license? Secondly, I already read that TI's original application design was a 76-81 GHz sensor (mmWave radar chip). This chip is very popular and widely used in a bumper and car interior. So if the sensor is working only when the vehicle is parked (non-driving) conditions and not in the bumper area or interior part of the vehicle does it still have to follow or does this case fall under automotive category? Could you please help me understand this.

  • Hi,

The answer to your questions depends where the sensor is used. You would need to check with regulatory body in specific countries.

In most countries 77GHz is used for outside the car and 60Ghz inside the car.

    thank you
