AWR2944EVM: Not able to flash the EVM

Part Number: AWR2944EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR2944, UNIFLASH

Dear Experts,

I am struggling with flashing of the AWR2944EVM.

Setup:

- latest mmwave_mcuplus_sdk_04_02_00_02

- AWR2944EVM RevA

I am following the instructions in the User Guide in order to flash the ccsdebug image, but flashing process fails.

I have updated the setenv.bat to use awr2944, using the right folders, debug.cfg file, User/Application COM port, UART boot mode.

But when running the final python script I am getting below message after some time ... not seeing anything on the load progress bar.

Using the exact same steps but for AM273x EVM it is working fine and I am able to load the ccsdebug image.

Am I missing something? Any hints are welcome.

Many thanks and best regards,

Gregor

  • Hi Gregor,

I think you are doing all things right to flash the image to AWR2944 EVM setting up the bat file with correct device name etc. But since its not working only on AWR2944 EVM, it could be due to following reasons.

    1. Can you please confirm if you are setting the SOP mode correctly to 5 as mentioned in snip below (taken from user guide): . Also make sure to press reset on the device once you have set to UART boot mode.
    2. Also, it could be that if the above step is done properly, the reset did not happen though you pressed it on device (maybe it did not get latched on properly due to some reason). Can you please try this step again?
    3. If you have tried step-2 multiple times. Can you please connect to the R5core on CCS and report the address when it gets connected?

Let me know if you have any questions?

    Thanks and Regards,

    Akshay.

  • Hi Akshay,

    thank you for quick reply.

    1. Yes, I can confirm, that I am using [101] on [SOP2, SOP1, SOP0] > UART boot mode. Yes I do reset and also complete power off/on after setting the correct boot mode.

    2. I have tried several times below steps

    > turn on EVM in UART boot mode, press NRESET, run CMD flash command with correct COM port ... but it is still not loading with same error message. I also see the WARMRST LED blink up shortly, when pressing NRESET button on EVM, so I think it is getting latched properly

    3. Below is the address when connecting with CCS to R5_0

    > 0x00004276

    Thanks and best regards,

    Gregor

  • Hi Gregor,

Okay we see that, the sbl uniflash uart is not getting uploaded and from your screenshot and address its very clear. So can you please try with another pair of jumpers in 101(SOP 5) mode. I do remember I had faced this problem initially when the jumpers were not setting in SOP 5 mode correctly.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Akshay.

  • Hi Gregor,

Could you also reply with the value of the register MSS_CTRL:R5_ROM_ECLIPSE @0x02120804?

I want to see if the ROM is being eclipsed or not. If the UART boot mode is latched correctly, the ROM should not be getting eclipsed before sbl_uart_uniflash is sent. If the device is still somehow in QSPI boot mode (possibly faulty jumpers), the ROM would be eclipsed.

    Regards,

    Aayush

  • Hi Aaayush,

I have tried with different jumpers, but same behavior.

Below is the register value: 0x00000000

    Thanks and best regards,

    Gregor

  • Gregor,

Thanks for sharing the screenshot. It seems ROM eclipsing has not happened and there is the issue with jumpers as its not set to SOP mode 5 correctly. I am closing this ticket for now.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Akshay.
