LM63LM64LM96X63EVM: Wanted to drive 48V fan with LM63LM64LM96X63EVM

Part Number: LM63LM64LM96X63EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM63

Hi Expert,

I Wanted to Run a 48V PWM controlled fan with LM63

1. Can we directly connect with PWM or 48V in PWR pin as it available in development board

2. Are we need a transistor to connect PWM pin to 48V fan PWM Port ?

3. In datasheet this connection control the negative of fan can we connect negative directly and this transistor use for PWM or need to change anything.

4. Is this lm63 at 48V is need any isolation to protect main controller ?

  • Hi Rishabh,

No, you cannot connect 48V to this EVM. The resistor divider R56/R57 lowers the voltage seen at the LM63 Tach pin input. These resistors must be adjusted to prevent LM63 from being exposed to greater than 5V (6V abs max.)

Whether you need a transistor for PWM depends on the fan's requirements.

LM63 cannot be exposed to greater than 6V absolute max. The schematic shown protects LM63 against a 12V fan.

    thanks,

    ren
