IWR6843: UART connection is failed on mmWave demo visualizer

Part Number: IWR6843

Dear support team,

We have an issue on mmWave_demo_Visualizer v3.4.0 with below FW ;

C:\ti\mmwave_industrial_toolbox_4_7_0\labs\out_of_box_demo\68xx_mmwave_sdk_dsp\prebuilt_binaries\xwr68xx_mmw_demo_bin

It seems UART connection is always failed with our original evaluation board, as shown in attached file.

We suppose that another interfaces like I2C are tested for checking the connection.

We would like to know which interfaces are used for it.

Best regards,

Taka

  • Takatoshi,

You should first update the demo visualizer.  Using the most current version of the visualizer is recommended.

In regards to your problem, please ensure that you are placing the device in functional mode by changing the SOP switches as indicated in the Out of Box Demo User Guide.  In addition, always be sure to power cycle your device between changing SOP modes.

Demos from TI mmWave devices usually send out the data on UART port.  If you would like the data to be sent over the SPI port it would have to reprogrammed to do so.

    Regards,

    Brennan

  • Dear Brennan,

We are testing in functional mode. It seems visualizer app may send some commands to IWR6843 through UART during the connection check

and then something may be checked by IWR6843 and replyed to the App.

We would like to know what is checked by IWR6843.

    Best regards,

    Taka

  • Taka,

I notice that in the screenshot you provided, you have not set the correct device in the Setup Details window under Platform.  Be sure that this is set to the device you are using (in this case, xWR68xx):

This should solve your problem and you should now be able to successfully connect, given that your device is in functional mode.

    Regards,

    Brennan
