Hi everyone,
I am currently working on an application for a customer using the IWR1642 radar and we would like to increase the frequency range beyond the 76-81 GHz specified limit.
I know that this request has been done here a few times already and the only response was that the radar does not support it. The RadarSS is returning an error when trying to configure the radar beyond the specified range, so I guess there is a software limit implemented in the firmware, fair enough. But is it possible to get a custom RadarSS firmware from TI with unlocked frequency range?
Please do not tell me that the hardware cannot do it, it can. Maybe it will not hold up to all the specs, but I am fairly sure it will work. I modified an IWR1642BOOST evaluation board by replacing the Crystal with an external frequency generator. I can manipulate the RF frequency between roughly 74.1 and 83 GHZ by changing the generator's frequency between 39 and 41 MHz. Both the transmitted and received waveforms look good - with a bit of extra attenuation, which is probably caused by the limited bandwidth of the antennas and can be compensated in software.
What do we have to do to get a custom RadarSS from TI?
Best regards,
Fabian
