I was looking for details information about the antenna, I found out MIMO radar pdf file... so what type of Antenna is it in AWR6843AOP EVM? I was thinking it is MIMO antenna, or cavity E shaped patch array antenna? If you can provide a document that would be great. Thank you

Hi,

I need to read and understand the theory behind this antenna provided by AWR6843AoP EVM, I read FAQ page still does not answered my question. This website mentioned ''A cavity-backed E-shape patch antenna element radiates mmW into the free space. Source: Texas Instruments" It says the source is Texas instrument? Can you please provide this source of information?

Another question: in the data sheet the field of view is 60 and the maximum field of view is 90? which one is to consider? Is it possible to have an angle around 70 and 80 when I did some experiments trying to measure the maximum theta to test the filed of view accuracy? Thank you

Hi Sarah,

The antenna of the AWR6843AOP is a patch antenna which is etched on the device package substrate bottom layer. You can read about patch antenna design in any antenna design textbooks.

Field of view is determined by the system requirements and link budget. An object with higher RCS number will improve your link budget and hence a wider field of view.

Hi,

Another questions, where is the DSP located in AWR6843AOP EVM, I attached a picture of it. Why the actual sensor is even smaller than the device combined with the debug board?

Hi Sarah,

The DSP is integrated inside AWR6843AOP. The antennas are also part of the AWR6843AOP package.

Hi, thanks for your reply. Are you saying the DSP single chip is integrated with antenna in the same place (black square)?

I was running the OOB demo, and I did an experiment to test the maximum theta so I got between 71 and 85 and in datasheet they says maxium field of view is plus miuns 60...is that possible to happen or my experiment is not valid? I attached the experiment settings start walking at Y=2m towards the radar then I find x and y value when it does stopped and I calculate theta....

The antenna is it Omnidirectional or Directional for AWR6843AOP?
