AWR2944EVM: mmWave Demo Visualizer unable to connect to ports

Part Number: AWR2944EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR2944

I am trying to run the OOB demo with mmWave Demo Visualizer using AWR2944EVM, however, I have not been able to connect with Application port and Auxillary Data port.

Here is what I have done so far:

1) Installed mmwave_mcuplus_sdk_04_02_00_01

2) Connected EVM to power source,  USB and ethernet cable

3) Flashed AWR2944EVM with awr2944_mmw_demoTDM.appimage

4) Attempted to connect with Application port (Baud Rates: 115200) and Auxillary Data port (Baud Rates: 852272) but failed as seen in the pic below (stuck at "Connecting to 1 of 2 targets.")

Do let me know how I can solve this. Thank you!

  • Hi,

A general comment that could help is that if possible, you should switch to the latest SDK (4.2.0.3).

Further, I want to confirm whether the OOB image is flashed correctly and is running on the device. To confirm this, could you connect to the application COM port using Teraterm or PuTTy at 15200 baud rate? After that, if you press the NRST button, you should see some output by the SBL, followed by the mmWave demo banner. If you press enter in the window, or type out some text, you should be able to see the demo respond over UART.

If you do see the correct output, could you confirm the demo visualizer settings? (the device type, SDK version, and processing chain)?

  • Hi Aayush

    Thank you for the reply.

I have switched to the latest SDK but I met the same problem.

I am still unsure about connecting the application COM port using TeraTerm, perhaps you could guide me through it?

After connecting to the application COM port, I went to serial port setup to change the baud rate. If my calculations are right, I should be changing the speed to 121600 to achieve baud rate of 15200. Do correct me if I'm wrong and let me know how do I proceed from here.

    Thank you so much!

    Regards

    Nabilah

  • Hi Nabilah,

The Teraterm speed should actually be the same as baud rate (115200) as far as I am aware.

Also, for the mmWave demo visualizer to run, TI CloudAgent and TI CloudAgent bridge browser extension should be installed. Google Chrome is the preferred browser.

Could I also ask what the operating system being used is?

    Regards,

    Aayush

  • Hi Aayush,

The following is my input and output for Teraterm respectively.

Just to confirm, the EVM would still be in UART BOOT Mode am I right? How do I proceed from here?

I have already installed TI CloudAgent and TI CloudAgent bridge browser extension beforehand and I am currently using Google Chrome. I am also currently using Windows 11.

    Thanks and regards,

    Nabilah

  • Hi Nabilah,

The EVM is indeed in UART boot mode. After flashing, you would need to change the SOP jumper settings back to QSPI boot mode. The jumper settings are documented in the user guide. After using the NRESET button, you should be able to see the SBL logs, followed by the out of box demo prompt. At this point, the demo visualizer should be able to work.

  • Hi Aayush,

I've managed to get it working. I suspect it might've been because the OS I was using is not compatible with the TI Cloud Agent.

Thank you so much for your help thus far!

    Regards,

    Nabilah

  • Hi Nabilah,

Good to hear that your issue was resolved. Could you comment on why you suspect that TI CloudAgent isn't compatible with Windows 11? Did moving to a windows 10 PC fix the issue?

If so, this is something I need to follow up internally.

    Regards,

    Aayush

  • Hi Aayush,

My apologies. I believe it might've been because of a mistake when flashing; most probably a typo in the files. I redownloaded the necessary documents on my Windows 11 PC and everything works fine now.

    Thank you again.

    Nabilah

  • Hi Nabilah,

Thank you for the update! I will close this thread now.
