DCA1000EVM: DCA1000 data capture throughput

Part Number: DCA1000EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR2243, AM2732,

Hi,

My customer is designing their own 2*awr2243P+AM2732-Q capture board, considering on how to capture adc raw data real-time, their requirement for data throughput is 1.4Gbps. TI recommendation is still using DCA1000 for 2chip cascade data capture, but DCA1000 only support theoretical 1Gpbs ethernet streaming, and it doesn't support SSD data storage like the MMWAVE-DSP-EVM for 4chip cascade RF EVM. So I think the DCA1000 cannot meet customer's requirement, here need your comments, look forward to your reply, appreciated.

BR,

Andy

  • Hi Andy,

AWR2243 has 4 lanes of LVDS and each lanes can support 450mbps.

So even with 2xAWR2243 DCA1000 should able to capture the raw adc data.

Team has tested with 2xAWR2243 + AM273x setup, to capture ADC data via DAC1000EVM.

  • Jitendra,

Sorry here would like to clarify my question again, i understand what u said, the throughput of the LVDS connected between AWR2243 and AM2732 can meet customer requirement, but the interface of streaming to PC is 1Gbps which would restricts the real-time streaming. The real-time streaming throughput depends on customer's RF cfg, field also test data capture via DCA1000, but my customer need 1.4Gbps that their cfg is different, the 4lane LVDS to get data from AM2732 is fine, but the gigabit ethernet speed is less than 1.4Gbps which cannot stream data out real-time, in this case my understanding it would cause data overlapped on DCA1000. So my question is how to process this case? Any unclear or misunderstanding pls correct me free, thanks.

  • HI Andy,

That will require to update the capture card ethernet speed and effectively upgrading HW and SW both.

And that won't be possible with the current DCA1000EVM, customer needs to invest in that direction to achieve this level of bandwidth.
