AWR6843AOP: Running AWR1843AOP Demo binary on top of xWR6843AOP

Part Number: AWR6843AOP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1843AOP,

Hi Champs

There's a custoemr that they would like to develop the obstacle detection module in Automotive project of Lucid Electric Car.

We found the Obstacle Detection AOP project is built on AWR1843AOP 77GHz sensor.

https://dev.ti.com/tirex/explore/node?node=AIUEeh94Uh9p2cFXozpVPg__AocYeEd__LATEST

But they asked us if AWR6843AOP-66GHz can be applicable to the project.

Please comment on the questions below.

1. Which is appropriate for the development of the Obstacle Detection AOP for Vehicle door opening safety, What's better btw 1843 AOP and 6843 AOP if another 1843 module will be installed for Front Radar ?

2. I wonder if there will be a problem with the operation performance if the sensor module is installed inside the vehicle door. I look forward to your consideration.

3. When it is not recommended to install it inside the door, please give us your opinion on where to install it.

3. The Obstacle Detection AOP lab is based on the AWR1843AOP, where should I modify it to work with the AWR6843AOP?

Many Thanks

Best Regards,

Jack

  • Hi Jack,

In general the demo can be ported on to 60GHz devices as well. But can you please elaborate on the exact customer use case? Is it for the application to sense for the free space near the radar or is this to detect any obstacle near the door? for both applications radar can be used.

    1. Which is appropriate for the development of the Obstacle Detection AOP for Vehicle door opening safety, What's better btw 1843 AOP and 6843 AOP if another 1843 module will be installed for Front Radar

This depends on where the other radar is mounted and if it is operational or not. If the other radar is installed for front end radar will it be operational while the door is being opened. The answer will depend on whether or not both the radars are operational simultaneously for this use case.

    2. I wonder if there will be a problem with the operation performance if the sensor module is installed inside the vehicle door. I look forward to your consideration

There will be sever attenuation since the material is metal. We do not have any data as of now for this mounting condition. There may be additional experiments needed to figure out the same.

    3. When it is not recommended to install it inside the door, please give us your opinion on where to install it.

One option could be on the side mirror but this will depend on the exact customer use case.

    3. The Obstacle Detection AOP lab is based on the AWR1843AOP, where should I modify it to work with the AWR6843AOP?

Most of the signal processing will be the same except for the chirp profile and the demo porting needed on 6843AOP device.

  • Hi Sudharshan

Thanks for your very kind reply.

  • Hi Jack,

Sure. I will go ahead and close this ticket. If you have additional questions Please re open the ticket.

    Regards,

    Sudharshan K N

  • Thanks. Sudharshan.

Let me create additional related question via a new ticket as customer decided to start the development with AWR6843AOP to run Obstacle Detection AOP Lab.

    3. The Obstacle Detection AOP lab is based on the AWR1843AOP, where should I modify it to work with the AWR6843AOP?

-> Most of the signal processing will be the same except for the chirp profile and the demo porting needed on 6843AOP device.

  • Hi Jack,

Can you also let us know if this is for in-cabin radar or for exterior radar application?

    Regards,

    Sudharshan K N

  • Hi Sudharshan

This is for exterior radar application as precrash warning purpose.

  • Thanks jack!
