HDC2080: Temperature and humidity sensor fragility

Hello,

We have a comment from a customer who is currently using a temperature/humidity sensor from another company as his first choice.

That customer told us that we need to be careful with that temperature/humidity sensor because it is fragile during reflow.

Do TI's temperature/humidity sensor products have any advantages such as resistance to breakage during reflow?

Hello,

Thank you for posting to the Sensing forum.

The HDC sensor must be added in the last step of the assembly process. Adding the HDC last reduces the risk of damage to the sensing polymer from contaminants or excessive heat. The list of contaminants can be found in the silicon user guide.

Does the last step of assembly mean that mounting by reflow, etc. is not possible?
Mounting and inspecting only the temperature/humidity sensor in a separate process is actually tough.

Hello,

We highly recommend populating the sensor on the last reflow process. Exposing the device to additional reflow cycles will expose the device to possible contaminants that can drift the device. After the last reflow, follow rehydration guidelines as outlined in the data sheet and the silicon user guide.
